New Geographical Indication for Ukrainian Wine: «Transcarpathian Wine» Recognized
A significant milestone has been achieved in the Ukrainian wine sector with the establishment of a new geographical indication: «Transcarpathian Wine.» This announcement was made by Volodymyr Kucherenko, the General Director of the Ukrainian Corporation «Ukrvinprom,» via his Facebook page.
This recognition highlights the considerable potential of Ukrainian viticulture and marks a pivotal moment in its history, emphasizing the sector’s commitment to tradition while pursuing growth and higher recognition within the global wine community. Kucherenko expressed optimism for the future, stating, «We uphold traditions, evolve, and aim for new heights in the international wine industry!»
The geographical indication signifies that the wine originates from a specific region characterized by distinctive geographical features, including its climate, soil composition, and local attributes. Such designation not only confers a unique flavor and aroma to the wine but also safeguards the product from counterfeiting.
In addition to Transcarpathian wine, Ukraine boasts other products with geographical indications, including Hutsul cheese made from sheep and cow milk and Melitopol cherries, showcasing the country’s rich agricultural diversity and commitment to quality.
This recognition serves as a testament to Ukraine’s growing reputation in the world of wine, inviting connoisseurs and enthusiasts alike to explore the unique offerings that the Transcarpathian region has to offer.
