Ukrainian Prime Minister Shmyhal Visits Kharkiv Region to Oversee Reconstruction Efforts

The Prime Minister of Ukraine, Denys Shmyhal, undertook a visit to the Kharkiv region, where he reviewed the ongoing restoration of residential homes, clinics, and a lyceum in the village of Staryi Saltiv located in the Chuhuiv district. During his visit, he engaged with local residents and provided updates on the progress of reconstruction.

Shmyhal highlighted the government’s commitment to improving the living conditions in the area. «We observed the restoration process and spoke with local residents. The reconstruction is being carried out under the principle of ‘better than before’: facades are being insulated, engineering systems are being replaced, and accessibility standards are being considered. This year, the government allocated 1.7 billion hryvnias to address the consequences of Russian aggression in the Kharkiv region,» he outlined in a post on his Telegram channel.

This week, several ministers also visited the region, including the Minister of Energy Herman Haluschenko, the Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Ruslan Stretets, the Minister of Social Policy Oksana Zholnovych, Vice Prime Minister Iryna Vereshchuk, who oversees the reintegration of temporarily occupied territories, and Deputy Minister of Economy Vitaliy Kindratov.

It is essential to note that following directives from President Volodymyr Zelensky, Shmyhal was tasked with organizing work trips for ministers to regions especially affected by the conflict, with a particular focus on frontline areas.

«Following these visits, government members will report on the situation within key sectors. Social services, energy, defense, educational preparations, healthcare, shelters, infrastructure, and production are all under the government’s spotlight. Based on the results of this work, government meetings will be held to discuss the pressing issues facing specific regions,» Shmyhal explained.

As Ukraine continues to rebuild in the aftermath of ongoing conflicts, government officials are maintaining a hands-on approach to monitor conditions on the ground and ensure that the recovery efforts meet the needs of affected communities.
