Drug Enforcement Unit in Sumy Region Apprehends Suspects in Major Drug Trafficking Case

Authorities in the Sumy region have made significant strides in the fight against drug trafficking by apprehending two individuals suspected of selling highly dangerous narcotics. The arrests were made following a tip-off regarding potential illegal activity on a street in Sumy.

A 20-year-old man and an 18-year-old woman were stopped by police during a routine operation. Subsequent searches revealed a packet containing approximately 500 grams of the psychoactive substance known as «PVP salt,» along with cash and a mobile phone. All confiscated items have been sent to the Sumy Research Institute for Expertise under the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine for further analysis.

Both individuals are currently being detained under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine and are facing serious charges under part 3 of Article 307 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. Investigators from the Sumy District Police Department, in collaboration with the prosecutor’s office, are now deliberating on the appropriate measures for their pre-trial restraint. The preliminary investigation is actively ongoing as law enforcement continues to address the escalating issue of illegal drug trade in the area.
