German Defense Minister Supports Ukrainian Use of German Weapons Against Aggressor
In a significant development during a briefing in Odessa alongside Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius expressed strong support for the use of German weaponry by Ukrainian forces on the territory of the aggressor. He emphasized that such actions would be considered within the framework of international law.
Pistorius recalled previous comments from German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, who highlighted the possibility of Ukraine utilizing German weapons «within the bounds of international law.» This statement was made in response to queries regarding authorization for Ukrainian actions on Russian soil.
The German minister underlined the importance of adhering to bilateral agreements and avoiding discussions that might cross «red lines.» Nevertheless, he acknowledged that this topic would require careful consideration moving forward.
It is noteworthy that thirteen nations have already formally granted Ukraine permission to employ Western weaponry on enemy territory. These countries include Finland, France, Lithuania, Latvia, Sweden, Estonia, Poland, the Czech Republic, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Canada, Denmark, and Norway.
