President Volodymyr Zelensky Promises Support for Bomb Shelters and Generators in Kharkiv
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky has promised financial support for the construction of bomb shelters and compensation for fuel costs for generators in Kharkiv. During his visit to the city on April 9, he emphasized the importance of providing essential infrastructure, especially for children and schools.
«Our priority is to provide electricity, water, and bomb shelters for children and schools. As for bomb shelters, you will decide where exactly they will be needed. We will allocate funds so that by the beginning of September, you will have built everything you can,» Zelensky stated.
Zelensky also confirmed that the state will fully compensate for fuel costs for generators, ensuring that people do not have to choose between sitting in the dark or spending money on electricity. This subsidy will cover all costs with state funds.
Kharkiv has faced intense shelling from Russian forces in recent weeks, leading to damage of residential buildings, schools, and energy infrastructure. The restoration of crucial facilities, such as TEC-5, is expected to take several years.
Considering the recent blackout and scheduled power outages in the city, the issue of providing bomb shelters and ensuring the uninterrupted operation of generators is critical for the residents of Kharkiv. President Zelensky also inspected the progress of defensive lines construction in the Kharkiv region during his visit.
