Ukraine Commits Financial Aid for Bomb Shelter Construction in Kharkiv Amid Ongoing Attacks
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has announced significant financial support aimed at constructing bomb shelters in Kharkiv and will fully reimburse fuel expenses for generators in the city. During a key meeting, he emphasized the critical need for infrastructure that prioritizes the safety of children and educational institutions.
“Our priority is to ensure electricity, water, and bomb shelters for children and schools. Regarding bomb shelters, you will decide where they are most needed. We will allocate funds so that by early September, you can build everything possible,” Zelensky stated.
In addition, the president confirmed that the government would cover all fuel costs for generators, relieving citizens from the difficult choice between enduring darkness and incurring high electricity expenses. This subsidy will be financed entirely through the state budget.
Kharkiv has faced intense shelling from Russian forces in recent weeks, leading to the damage of residential buildings, schools, and energy infrastructure. The restoration of key facilities, such as Heat and Power Plant No. 5, is expected to take several years.
Given recent power outages and planned blackouts in the city, ensuring bomb shelters and the uninterrupted operation of generators has become critically important for Kharkiv residents. During his visit, President Zelensky also assessed the progress of defensive line construction in the Kharkiv region, reaffirming the government’s commitment to maintaining safety and security amid ongoing conflict.
