Water Quality Concerns Rise in Kramatorsk
Significant water quality issues have been identified in Kramatorsk, as reported by the local branch of the State Administration’s «Donetsk Regional Center for Disease Control and Prevention» under the Ministry of Health. The findings raise serious health concerns for the community, emphasizing the need for immediate intervention.
Two permanent monitoring stations have been established along the Kazenny Torets River—one located at Bernatskyi Park near the city entrance, and the other at the Yasnohiriivskyi Point on the city outskirts. In addition to the Kazenny Torets River, Kramatorsk is home to several other bodies of water, including the Vasylivska Pustosh settlement pond, Maiachkivske Reservoir, and Veselivskyi Pond.
Recent studies revealed alarming results concerning the sanitary-chemical indicators in water samples from these sites. Testing conducted across five locations indicated a total of five deviations (100%) in the water quality at the Kazenny Torets monitoring stations, as well as at the Vasylivska Pustosh pond, Maiachkivske Reservoir, and Veselivskyi Pond. The deviations were linked to critical parameters such as sulfates, total dissolved solids, chemical oxygen demand, magnesium levels, biochemical oxygen demand over five days, and dissolved oxygen content.
Moreover, microbiological analyses conducted on the same water samples unveiled two deviations (40%) indicating the presence of lactose-positive coliform bacteria at the monitoring stations in Bernatskyi Park and Yasnohiriivskyi Point.
These findings underscore an urgent need for community members and local authorities to address the deteriorating water quality, which poses potential health risks to residents and the surrounding environment. As Kramatorsk navigates these environmental challenges, proactive measures will be essential to restore the integrity and safety of its water resources.
