Significant Reductions in Personnel for Municipal Security in Odesa Amid Ongoing Conflict

The city of Odesa is witnessing a substantial reduction in the workforce of its municipal security service, as Mayor Hennadii Trukhanov has officially ordered the staff of the Municipal Guard enterprise to be decreased from 450 to 350 positions. This decision comes in light of the ongoing war, which has profoundly impacted local employment within public services.

Director of the Department of Municipal Security, Viktor Kuznetsov, explained that the reduction is primarily driven by a significant number of job vacancies resulting from mobilization efforts. Over 300 employees have been summoned for military service, with eight tragically losing their lives in the conflict.

Kuznetsov stated, «Yes, we have initiated a reduction of staff in the Municipal Guard by 100 positions. Given the current situation, maintaining the previous number of vacancies no longer makes sense, so we are scaling down our workforce to 350. However, there are still some remaining vacancies.»

The atmosphere of fear and uncertainty surrounding mobilization has also been highlighted by an anonymous employee from the Municipal Guard. This individual noted that many potential workers are reluctant to join an organization where the risk of being called up for military duty is a pressing concern.

«We officially register our employees and provide lists to the Territorial Defense Headquarters. People are afraid that once they start working, they could be immediately summoned to the front lines. We see a similar situation across other municipal enterprises, such as the Odesa Electric Transport, which is experiencing a severe shortage of trolleybus and tram drivers,» he added.

This reduction in staff not only affects the security sector but also signals broader implications for public transport and community safety in Odesa as the conflict continues to evolve, leaving many city services struggling to maintain their operations amid ongoing personnel shortages.
