The European Parliament’s Focus on Social Network Legislation

The new composition of the European Parliament is placing a high priority on legislative initiatives regulating social networks. President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen addressed the European Parliament on July 18, promising to tackle cyberbullying and implement measures against the design of social networks contributing to dependency.

Von der Leyen pledged to launch the first comprehensive study in European history on the impact of social media on the well-being of young people. She expressed her sorrow at the harm caused to young individuals, including loss of life, due to online violence.
