The Kyiv City Council Establishes Commission for Veterans’ Assistance

The Kyiv City Council has established a commission to conduct interviews with candidates for the position of assistant to a veteran in the transition system from military service to civilian life in the capital. This was announced by the director of the Department of Social and Veterans’ Policy of the Kyiv City State Administration, Ruslan Svitly.

Supporting Our Defenders

«Our defenders experience an extremely traumatic experience during combat. Therefore, our task today is to support veterans and create all conditions so that they can better adapt to civilian life, help them not lose faith in themselves, and not become a new ‘lost generation’. And the introduction of the institution of a veteran’s assistant is to become one of the means of such support,» emphasized Ruslan Svitly.

Criteria for Evaluation

Deputies approved the provisions for this commission, according to which the competencies of a candidate for the position of a veteran’s assistant will be evaluated based on a number of criteria, including:

  • Experience in the «person-to-person» work sphere, experience working with regulatory and procedural documents;
  • Motivation and stability of the applicant for the future position of a veteran’s assistant;
  • Communicative and organizational skills of the candidate;
  • Personal qualities and understanding of the social purpose of a veteran’s assistant, including levels of empathy, resilience to stress, and willingness to perform public service.

Already Operational

It is worth noting that veteran assistant services are already operational in several pilot regions.
