Lithuania pledges 0.25% of GDP to support Ukraine

Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda announced on his Twitter that Lithuania intends to allocate no less than 0.25% of its GDP to support Ukraine. He emphasized that this is the minimum level of assistance that will be provided by the country for the duration of the entire period of need.

«Today at the meeting of the State Defense Council, we adopted a decision to allocate at least 0.25% of GDP to support the security and defense of Ukraine. Lithuania remains committed to its support and is ready to continue helping as long as it is necessary. We will always support freedom,» he wrote.

According to the World Bank, Lithuania’s GDP in 2022 was approximately $70.97 billion. Therefore, 0.25% of this amount is approximately $177.5 million.

It is also known that Lithuania has approved the dispatch of its military personnel for training Ukrainian soldiers, not for participation in combat operations. The country’s government has already received a mandate to conduct such training.

International support for Ukraine

Earlier, Latvia announced an initiative to supply drones to the Armed Forces of Ukraine together with the United Kingdom, with the total amount of the initiative being 1 million euros. Over 20 countries have already joined this initiative and have expressed their readiness to transfer thousands of drones to Ukraine.

Additionally, the United States has provided Ukraine with $1.5 billion in assistance, which will be used for the restoration of energy infrastructure and other needs.
