In the Svyatoshynsky district of the capital, a street was renamed in honor of the prominent Ukrainian pilot and Hero of Ukraine Volodymyr Gaponenko.
This was reported by the Kyiv City Council.
Previously, the street was named after the Soviet military fighter pilot Anatoliy Pantelkin.
As part of the decolonization of the city’s toponymy, the decision was made to name the street after the Ukrainian pilot, the captain of the PS752 flight crew of Ukraine International Airlines.
Based on the results of the voting and expert opinions, the city council adopted a decision to support the new name.
The mayor’s office reminded that the change of names of city objects does not require reissuing documents.
