Odessa Prepares for the 80th Anniversary of Liberation

Odessa is getting ready to commemorate the 80th anniversary of its liberation from fascist occupiers. In anticipation of the celebrations, the city has implemented measures to enhance security and restrict traffic around the Alley of Glory.

According to the regional police press service, heightened patrols will be deployed across the streets, as well as at public and memorial sites dedicated to World War II. Law enforcement agencies will ensure order and maintain control in key areas throughout the day.

Memorials honoring the liberators of Odessa and its surroundings will undergo inspections by explosive ordnance experts. Entry to these areas will be managed through designated checkpoints.

In the vicinity of the Alley of Glory, there will be temporary restrictions on public transport. From early morning until the evening, the final stops for buses No. 203 and No. 233 will be relocated from Shevchenko Park to the intersection of Lidersky Boulevard and Bazarnaya Street, the same as the endpoint for trolleybus route No. 3.

«The likelihood of potential threats on this important day for the residents of Odessa is quite high. Therefore, to honor the heroism of those who defended our land from Nazi occupiers, we urge everyone to remain vigilant, follow safety measures, avoid crowded areas around memorials, and respond to any alarm signals,» stated Denis Zakarchenko, Deputy Head of the National Police in the Odessa region.

Authorities have also reminded residents to carry identification, refrain from displaying symbols of communist and Nazi totalitarian regimes, and to avoid consuming alcohol in public areas.

The city’s preparations signal a commitment to honoring its history while ensuring the safety of all participants during this significant event.
