According to the results of a survey conducted on the request of the European Council on Foreign Relations and reported by the European Truth, the majority of Europeans believe that the Russo-Ukrainian war will end through peaceful negotiations. A particularly large percentage of respondents consider this the most likely scenario if Western partners begin providing Ukraine with greater military assistance.

Views on the Conflict

Europeans believe that Ukraine has low chances of winning the conflict, with the exception of Estonia, where faith in victory remains. In most countries included in the survey, the majority of respondents believe that a peaceful resolution is the most likely scenario.

The survey also revealed that European opinions vary significantly depending on political views and place of residence. For example, countries supporting the idea of «some peace as soon as possible» include Bulgaria, Greece, and Italy, while «a fair peace for Ukraine» is supported by Estonia, Sweden, Poland, Britain, Portugal, and others.

Significant differences were not found between the results of the survey conducted in January and May 2024, highlighting the stability of opinions regarding the conflict.

European Policy towards the Conflict

Regarding Europe’s policy towards the Russo-Ukrainian war, the majority of respondents are inclined to support Ukraine in its efforts to de-occupy territories, but some also express the opinion of the necessity to push Ukraine towards an agreement with Russia.
