Survey Reveals European Perspectives on Russia-Ukraine Conflict

According to a survey commissioned by the European Council on Foreign Relations and published by the media outlet «European Truth,» a significant majority of Europeans believe that the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine will ultimately conclude through peaceful negotiations. Notably, respondents expressed greater satisfaction with this scenario if Western partners were to increase military support for Ukraine.

Views on the conflict are divided: while most Europeans consider Ukraine’s chances of winning to be low, Estonia stands out as a country where confidence in a successful outcome remains high. In the majority of other surveyed nations, participants firmly believe that a peaceful resolution to the conflict is the most likely scenario.

The survey also revealed substantial differences in opinions among Europeans based on political perspectives and regional affiliations. Countries like Bulgaria, Greece, and Italy emerged as advocates for a swift peace, while the notion of a «just peace for Ukraine» found support in Estonia, Sweden, Poland, the United Kingdom, Portugal, and others.

The consistency of opinions is notable, as no significant differences were found between surveys conducted in earlier months, indicating stable viewpoints regarding the conflict.

In terms of Europe’s policy towards the Russia-Ukraine war, most respondents express support for Ukraine’s efforts to reclaim occupied territories. However, some also suggest that there may be a need to encourage Ukraine to reach an agreement with Russia.

This survey underscores the complex and varied landscape of public opinion across Europe regarding the war, illustrating the intricate balance between support for Ukraine and the desire for a negotiated peace. As discussions continue, the challenge remains on how to navigate these differing perspectives in the pursuit of lasting peace in the region.
