Odessa Gears Up for 80th Anniversary of City Liberation
On April 10, Odessa will celebrate the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the city from fascist invaders. As part of the celebration, the city is taking measures to increase security and restrict traffic around the Alley of Glory.
According to the press service of the regional police, enhanced patrolling of streets, public, and memorial sites dedicated to World War II is planned for this day. Law enforcement officers will ensure order and control in all key areas.
Memorials dedicated to the liberators of Odessa, as well as the surrounding area, will be checked by explosives specialists. Entry to these areas will be organized through special checkpoints.
Temporary restrictions will be introduced for public transport near the Alley of Glory. From 6:00 to 20:00, the final bus stops No. 203 and No. 233 will be moved from Shevchenko Park to the intersection of Lidersky Boulevard and Bazarna Street (the final trolleybus stop on route No. 3).
«The likelihood of possible threats on this important day for the residents of Odessa is quite high. Therefore, to honor the heroism of the defenders who protected our land from Nazi occupiers, we call on everyone to remain vigilant, follow safety measures, avoid crowds near memorial sites, and respond to alarm signals,» Deputy Chief of the National Police in the Odessa region Denis Zakharchenko said.
Law enforcement officers also reminded the need to have an ID, refrain from using symbols of communist and Nazi totalitarian regimes, and not consume alcohol in public places.
