US Secretary of State Considers Policy Change Towards Israel
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has stated that Washington is considering a change in its policy towards Israel due to the humanitarian crisis and the increasing number of civilian casualties in the Gaza Strip, where the IDF (Israeli Defense Forces) continues its operation against Hamas.
It is reported that after a phone call between US President Joe Biden and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Blinken expressed concern and condemned the attack on the humanitarian convoy of the organization «World Central Kitchen.»
The American official stated that Washington expects Israel to make changes in its policy regarding the protection of civilian population in Gaza, otherwise there may be changes in US policy.
Blinken’s statement is an important step indicating that the Biden administration is losing patience in its relations with the Israeli government against the backdrop of huge humanitarian tragedies.
It should be noted that the attack on the WCK humanitarian convoy resulted in the death of seven aid workers from various countries, including three British citizens. Israel explained this incident as a «mistaken identification» of a Hamas terrorist.
