Grand Book Festival Celebrates Literature in Odessa
Odessa recently hosted an expansive book festival, Bookfest-2024, organized by the Central City Library System for Children. This vibrant event was held in honor of World Book Day and Copyright Day, turning into a joyous celebration for literature enthusiasts.
Admission to the festival was free, and all activities were offered at no cost, allowing everyone to immerse themselves in the enchanting world of books. The festivities kicked off with a concert featuring talent from local music schools and artistic groups, including the Youth Theatre named after Yuri Olesha.
Festival highlights included numerous book exhibitions showcasing both classic literature and the latest works from contemporary authors. Attendees had the opportunity to participate in a variety of workshops, engaging in activities such as artistic ceramics, creating festive greeting cards, crafting felt owls, making beaded bracelets, and origami. Additionally, visitors enjoyed an exciting show presented by the School of Scientific Wonders, titled «Fascinating Science.»
A special feature of the festival was a gathering with local authors and historians, including Dmitry Zhdanov, Inna Ishchuk, Alexey Nademlinsky, and Elena Karachevskaya. They captivated the audience by reading excerpts from their books, drawing listeners into thrilling narratives and sharing intriguing anecdotes.
A particular focus was placed on the photo exhibition «Book in Frame,» where photographers Alexander Synelnikov, Yevgeny Volokin, Elena Ksenofontova, and Igor Sitnik displayed vibrant artworks that transported visitors into the magical realm of literature.
Children were enchanted by whimsical photo zones that temporarily transformed reality into a magical world of tales and fantasies. Bookfest-2024 left a lasting impression on both the residents of Odessa and its guests, reaffirming the importance of promoting reading and literature in the community.
