Russian Forces Shell Ukrainian Settlements, Civilians Among the Casualties

In a renewed wave of violence, Russian military forces have targeted the village of Komar and the city of Ukrainka in the Donetsk region of Ukraine. The shelling has led to civilian casualties in both locations, prompting urgent calls for evacuation.

According to Vadim Filashkin, the head of the Donetsk Regional State Administration, the city of Ukrainka was struck early in the morning by attacks utilizing the «Smerch» multiple rocket launcher system. “As a result of the strike, a private residence, an infrastructure facility, and two enterprises were damaged,” Filashkin reported. Tragically, one individual lost their life, while another sustained injuries.

Filashkin urged residents in affected areas to evacuate immediately, emphasizing the serious risks posed by ongoing hostilities.

Meanwhile, the village of Komar was bombarded with three guided aerial bombs, causing extensive damage. Filashkin noted that the bombardment resulted in damage to an administrative building, 13 private homes, four shops, two apartment buildings, and two additional infrastructure facilities. This attack claimed one life and left 14 people injured.

The Donetsk regional prosecutor’s office further clarified that among the injured were 15 local council employees who were present within the building during the assault. “The central part of the settlement was the target of the strike. As a result of one of the munitions landing near the local council building, 15 employees were affected… The private sector of the village also came under fire,” the prosecution added.

In a sorrowful turn of events, one of the civilian victims succumbed to their injuries while receiving medical assistance. The situation illustrates the ongoing humanitarian toll of the conflict in the region, highlighting the urgent need for both immediate humanitarian aid and long-term diplomatic solutions to ensure the safety of civilians.
