Colonel Mykita Vitek Appointed as Commander of the 36th Separate Marine Infantry Brigade
Colonel Mykita Vitek, a former instructor at the Odessa Military Academy and commander of the Odessa territorial defense brigade, has been appointed as the new commander of the 36th separate marine infantry brigade named after Counter Admiral Mikhaylo Bilinsky. This appointment is a significant step in his military career, which began in this same brigade.
In his statement on social media, Colonel Vitek emphasized his pride and responsibility in his new role: «Returning to the unit where I started my military career, I am pleased and honored to take command of this glorious brigade.»
Mykita Vitek was born in Haspra, near Yalta, and began his military career after graduating from the military lyceum in Alushta. He continued his education at the Sumy Institute of Missile Troops and Artillery. After his first experience as a commander of a mortar platoon in Crimea, he was forced to leave the occupied peninsula in 2014 and continued his service in Mykolaiv.
Since 2017, Vitek has worked as an instructor at the Odessa Military Academy, and in 2022, he took command of one of the battalions of the 126th territorial defense brigade. Under his command, the brigade has proven itself to be a powerful and effective part of the Ukrainian armed forces.
The previous commander of the brigade, Colonel Viktor Sikoza, led the 36th brigade from May 2022 to April 2024.
